Project description:

For this project the client works towards the construction of an ice-skating rink within the city of Goes. The task which the students got to work on is bringing sustainability and eco-friendliness into the scope of the construction of the building. The main problem for this research is that the Government and Stakeholders are worried that the Hall will not be designed, constructed, and demolished in a sustainable manner. Students had limited time for this research that why the requirements for the result are mainly the execution of desk research. During the desk research construction methods and materials were studied which can be applied in the project’s situation.

Outcomes:

The original premise of the report was to focus on increasing sustainability within the structure, but a few different subjects were added whilst working on the project. These were the following subjects, Global emission calculation and Rainwater capture and usage. Next to that other sustainable practices were researched and a report on piles for columns, mass, timber, floor, walls, composting and general recycled materials used in construction was conducted.
