Design Thinking track

Students in the Design Thinking track will engage and design relevant solutions for a variety of challenges in forms of project groups. They will meet and collaborate with industry stakeholders, fellow students, researchers and lecturers. Students participate in multiple projects, with a maximum of 2 projects at the same time, depending on the number of ECT's they need to obtain.

Throughout the project(s) students will not only make a difference for the client with their fresh insights and perspectives but they will also learn to apply the Design Thinking approach with help of our Design Thinking toolkit. The Design Thinking toolkit is divided into four main phases based on the Double Diamant model:

Process and Procedures

The Design Thinking toolkit is structured into clear sub-steps, as shown above, providing a systematic approach to tackling complex challenges. Experienced coaches offer guidance and support, ensuring that teams have the necessary tools and insights to navigate their projects successfully.

Flexible Credit Options & Project Involvement

Participants can engage in one or two projects depending on their preferred workload and credit requirements. A full 30 ECTS semester involves working on two projects simultaneously, offering an intensive and comprehensive experience. Those opting for a smaller credit package can focus on one project, allowing for greater flexibility to combine this with other commitments.

Opportunities for minor repair possibilities

In addition to offering a fulltime minor (30 ECTS), The Design Thinking Track also provides opportunities to obtain smaller credit packages.

Possibilities are:

  • 6 ECTS
  • 10.5 ECTS
  • 15 ECTS

Different combinations of these packages are available. For example: when students are in need of 7 ECTS it is possible to choose the package of 10,5 or for those requiring 21 ECTS it is possible to combine 6 ECTS + 15 ECTS.

This can be beneficial for those who need to recover missed credits from a previous minor or other courses. Participants or 'repair' students can join ongoing projects and work towards fulfilling their credit requirements in consultation with their study program. The Garage facilitates these opportunities, but final approval for credit recovery must come from the relevant study program representatives. Coaching & Collaboration

Each project group is assigned a dedicated coach, with weekly update meetings recommended to discuss progress, key learnings, and next steps. The Garage encourages active engagement and collaboration, with a minimum attendance requirement of six half-days per week to foster teamwork and knowledge-sharing.
