Tracks
Within the HZ Studio there are two different possible tracks to choose from. Either Applied Research or Design Thinking & Doing. Below the differences between the two tracks are explained.
Applied Research:
Throughout this minor students will do research for either an HZ research group or an HZ lectorate. It will give the students the opportunity to emerge themselves in an interesting theme of their own choice connected with an HZ research group or lectorate. Students work either individually or in a team. Depending upon the theme and available project, the research can be either in Dutch or in English. The impactful theme's students can choose from are for example climate adaptation, biobased construction, marine biobased chemistry, sensor technology, water technology, or food innovation. Design Thinking & Doing:
In the Design Thinking and Doing minor students work on real-life projects coming from organizations and businesses within the region of Zeeland. Design Thinking is an human-centered approach which focuses on understanding stakeholders and their needs before developing creative solutions. Key elements include collaboration, empathy, brainstorming, and experimentation. Students work in interdisciplinary teams of up to five, and the main language is English. There are no fixed themes unlike the applied research minor, as each semester brings fresh and exciting challenges. However, you can say that almost every project is linked with one of the important HZ theme's such as Water, Energy, Food and Vitality.
