CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS - The Dow fresh water WWTP is suffering from poorly settling sludge, thereby limiting the plant's hydraulic treatment capacity. As the effluent quality is critical for reuse as cooling tower make-up, currently no chemical additives are applied to improve settling behavior of the activated sludge.
The objective of this study is to identify suitable coagulant/flocculation agents, which both improve settling properties and do not have a detrimental impact on the effluent quality. Lab testing using actual activated sludge and wastewater (by means of a jar-tester) is a key component of the task. Moreover the student is challenged to generate an effective cause-effect monitoring plan, comprising the characterization of incoming wastewater (by means of chemical or physical testing), determining activated sludge settling properties, and the suitability of coagulating/flocculating agents.

Uit onderzoek van HZ Kenniscentrum Kusttoerisme (onderdeel van HZ University of Applied Sciences) onder ruim 4.000 Zeeuwen blijkt dat een meerderheid van de inwoners van de provincie Zeeland toeristen graag ziet komen. Wel zijn er vanzelfsprekend ook aandachts- en verbeterpunten. Deze zijn met name gerelateerd aan de ervaren overlast (verkeer, zwerfafval, drukte) en de wens voor het behoud van de natuurlijke omgeving, het verbeteren van de leefbaarheid van de inwoners en het ontwikkelen van toerisme op een schaal die past bij de gemeenschap. +
Zeeland is sinds jaar en dag een toeristische provincie bij uitstek. Jaarlijks brengen circa 3 miljoen toeristen zo’n 19 miljoen overnachtingen door in Zeeland en ontvangt de provincie ongeveer 26 miljoen dagbezoekers. Alhoewel het toerisme ons veel brengt, is de publieke opinie over toerisme niet altijd positief. Meestal laten vooral de meest uitgesproken voor- en tegenstanders van zich horen, maar hoe kijkt de gemiddelde Zeeuw nu aan tegen het toerisme in zijn of haar directe leefomgeving? +
De terugkeer naar werk kan gezien worden als een lange reis; een reis waarin werknemers met kanker en ook hun werkgevers te maken krijgen met ingewikkelde situaties en dilemma’s. Met behulp van een online tool wordt deze reis visueel gemaakt en aangevuld met informatie. +
In de afgelopen jaren is gebleken dat GPS-data zeer veel inzicht kunnen bieden in bezoekersstromen - bezochte plekken, verplaatsingen en drukte. Na het wegvallen van de Zeeland-App wordt in de komende jaren gewerkt met alternatieve bronnen van GPS-data om soortgelijke analyses te kunnen voortzetten en uitbreiden. +
HZ and Evides are studying the effects of various operational settings of the ion exchange (IEX) process on the demineralization efficiency and TOC (total organic carbon) removal. An automated lab setup is currently being put into place at HZ and various operational settings need to be tested, starting with demi water and inert resins, and expanding towards cation and anion resins combined with drinking water, including the regeneration processes. The current work incorporates installing system components, checking system integrity and testing process control and alarms with LabView.

This summer (July - August) we are looking for 4 enthusiastic young people for our Schoon Zeeland campaign team.
You go out in pairs and inform everyone on the beaches of Vlissingen about the importance of clean beaches.
In addition to informing, you hand out paper waste bags and you can, for example, do a beach activity with children that has to do with waste. You keep track of how many people you have spoken, and you make a small report of this every day.
You work 4 days a week, 5 hours a day. Compensation is around 10 euros per hour.
So, are you active, sporty, creative, do you approach people easily and are you at least 18 years old? Do not wait any longer and apply!

Voor ons campagneteam Schoon Zeeland zijn wij deze zomer (juli - augustus) op zoek naar 4 enthousiaste jongeren.
Je gaat met z’n tweeën op stap en informeert jong en oud op de Vlissingse stranden over het belang van schone stranden.
Naast informeren, deel je papieren afvalzakjes uit en kun je bijvoorbeeld met kinderen een strandactiviteit doen wat te maken heeft met afval. Je houdt bij hoeveel mensen je gesproken hebt en je maakt hier dagelijks een verslagje van.
Je werkt 4 dagen per week, 5 uur per dag. Vergoeding ligt rond de 10 euro per uur.
