Sustainable Food at HZ
At HZ Green Office, we are promoting sustainable and healthy food. In collaboration with HZ Catering, HZ Vitality Management and researchers within the HZ Food Community, we are implementing more sustainable and healthy food within the HZ.
In addition to making our school canteens more sustainable, we are working on the following:
- Local and Organic Sourcing: Through the Boer&Buur met Natuur project, we are working to get more seasonal and organic food in HZ Catering, sourced from local growers like Plantalia in Ritthem.
- Campus Food Gardens: Since 2019, the Green Office together with International Business students, has developed a biodiverse garden at the student campus of APV Housing in Vlissingen, with herbs, berries and fruit trees. The garden is currently redeveloped into a community garden, so that not only students but also the local neighbourhood can enjoy the garden. During COVID, we started to develop a food garden at HZ Vlissingen with students from different study programs. Every Thursday from 10-14h, we organise garden sessions at our HZ Food garden with IVN gardening coach Eva van Gameren and food forest expert Viviane Smit.

Students can garden together at CitySeeds, an urban garden in Middelburg, in the mornings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Students (and employees) can volunteer at Plantalia. Or you can become a harvest partner and harvest every week your own fresh organic vegetables.
