Profieltekst:	Hi, my name is Merel! I am 22 years old and I am a 3rd year student in Pedagogy. For the last couple of years, I joined in with a few HZ Green activities every now and then. Then, last year, I joined different small initiatives all over in Middelburg, including upcycling courses at Kilosale Zeeland, which inspired me to join more sustainable activities locally. I firmly believe that a greater world starts nearby. Seeing what beauty can be found, created and managed, will make an environment that doesn't value nature at all, less normal. I have been positively surprised by the range of students that attend each week, and I am glad to see the group having eyes for our individual talents to contribute in ways that come natural to us.

For the last couple of years, I have been actively eyeing the activities hosted by the HZ Green Office, joining a few activities every now and then. But in 2024 I decided to increase my participation, as I'd been missing a way to be involved locally here in Walcheren. Last year, I joined different small initiatives all over in Middelburg, including upcycling courses at the Kilosale Zeeland, which inspired me to join more sustainable activities locally. Over the Summer, I did a lot of cycling, which helped me get familiar with just how many gems lie hidden on our beautiful island.

Seeing what beauty can be found, created and managed locally, will make an environment that doesn't value health and nature at all, less understandable. If you don't have an idea that a better world can feel like a normal and balanced place, that it can exist, something that we can organically contribute to, adding to this world grows to feel more overwhelming than it is. It would be amazing if nature was seen more as a context that we live in that matters because it is our world, instead of being seen as something outside of us, a mere part of it, that we can choose to care about.
-I have been positively surprised by the range of students that attend each week, familiar faces as well as new ones. As a contributor to our HZ Green website I hope to entice students to join us in our activities and our cause, and that however individual goals may be, whether HZ Personality, learning a new skill, or meeting new people, I can aid in further creating a compassionate community with different ideas and understandings of how we can help our collective cause. Since I have a history in teaching English as well as in editing, this seemed like a perfect fit, and I am really glad to see the group having eyes for our individual talents and potential to contribute in ways that come natural to us.
