Design and Develop

Description of the project and the local area

Sportdorp Oostkapelle is a joint venture of local sports and exercise providers that aim to actively involve all residents and to lead them to the existing or new range of activities. This is partly due to a health perspective, too many people and especially the over-55s who do not exercise enough and also have to deal with all kinds of welfare diseases.

Assets and resources

SportZeeland regularly supervises new implementation projects for new target groups. Even with the concept of sports village, many good results have already been achieved in other environments. The knowledge of the local situation and the involvement and cooperation of the municipality, the elderly organization, health organizations, the village council, the tourist entrepreneurs and the sports and exercise providers, ensure that there is sufficient expertise to enter into new partnerships and new target groups in motion to get.

Geographical setting

The Sportdorp Oostkapelle project takes place in Oostkapelle within the municipality of Veere. Oostkapelle is a village located on the coast in Zeeland. The village has +/- 2500 inhabitants and a multitude (+/- 600.000, -) of tourist overnight stays. A large proportion of the population (33%) is 50+ and has to deal with health inequalities. In addition, part of the social services is under pressure due to the dejuvenation, aging and changing physical activity, exercise requirements. That is why we are working with the SAIL project on new unforeseen combinations with, among other things, the care and tourism sector.

Current situation

The project Sportdorp is a file project, but in this environment it is new and we are trying to involve new project partners who have the same progress with Oostkapelle as a village. It is not obvious that organizations from the sports and exercise sector, for example, join forces with the care or tourism sector. By sharing the interests with each other and formulating the ambitions together, we are able to reach the difficult-to-find target group earlier and hold on to them.

Demand

Increasingly, more and more people are finding it more important to grow old and experience that exercising and being actively involved can contribute to this. In addition, by participating in these sports and exercise activities, they also create a new network that can prevent loneliness, an increasing social phenomenon among older people. The question, however, is how we can trace this target group that is too little physically active and has a limited social network and bind it to our project

Expansion

Information capture for your project

For our project we keep lists of participants, the invitations, presentations, sometimes photos and make a report of all joint meetings. Individual or telephone consultations, the outcome of which is noted.

Acceptability

The project proposal was enthusiastically received by all partners. The municipality of Veere and even the alderman saw this as a unique opportunity to get more people from Oostkapelle moving. A good example of this is that the Alderman has offered to distribute the 1-measurement among the inhabitants and tourists of Oostkapelle not only via social, but also to distribute and collect the questionnaires from home. The involvement of the tourist entrepreneurs was questioned by the chairman of the sports village and the village council of Oostkapelle. Through his network he has asked the tourist entrepreneurs to work on the request of tourists. E-mail exchanges are available.

Adaptation

Yes, we have had to make a number of changes in our approach. The changes in the pilots have to do with the available time in the summer season, if you work together with smaller tourist entrepreneurs, they have little time for the development of a new concept in the high season, so we have had to postpone the pilot for the wild-picking walk. Then in our consultations we also had to deal with someone who actually wanted to prevent the wild-picking walk from being further developed in the context of this pilot. She had already worked out a similar concept before and she felt that we had to pay her with retroactive effect. If we did not do that, she would no longer cooperate with this pilot. This forced us to call in another nature organization, as a result of which the pilot also suffered some delay. A third pilot; the running football has not taken place in and on Oostkapelle because of a prolonged illness of the contact person, but in a nearby village Zoutelande. A successful approach, in which about 200 seniors of 55 plus have knowledge with Walking Football.

Key stakeholders and relations

The sports and exercise providers, the village council and the relationship with the various implementing organizations such as the organizations for older people make that there is more support for such projects and approaches, which can be coordinated with the regular supply. This prevents individual action and ensures that projects and programs become available that everyone supports. This is definitely an added value of this collaboration.
