The goal of the I-KNOW-HOW project is to help employees diagnosed with cancer to remain in or return to work. During the launch event of this project experts in the field will share their knowledge and hands-on workshops will be provided.

- Supporting people with a cancer diagnosis – Kerry Evans & Michael O’Rourke (The Sara Lee Trust, UK)
The aim of this interactive workshop is to communicate the needs of clients who have been diagnosed with cancer. We will do this by looking at the experience of cancer, fear, psychological impact of cancer and the concept of denial. The experience of cancer refers to the end of predictability, interruption of live and how a patient's 'assumptive world' is broken. Fear refers to maybe not having the chance to live the life they had planned. The psychological impact is often neglected. And last but not least, we focus on how denial can play an important part in the cancer experience and how to work with it.
- The (para)medics perspective in the return to work-trajectory of employees with cancer – Bas van de Weg (rehabilitation consultant, NL)
In this interactive presentation, the medical, social, and psychological consequences of cancer (treatment) and the challenges faced by patients, (para)medics and employers when returning to work will be considered. In particular, the role of cognitive disorders leading to disability and impairment of participation is discussed. The possibility of interdisciplinary treatment focusing on attaining maximal autonomy and participation will be outlined, as well as practical tips for (para)medics and patients.Supporting people with a cancer diagnosis.
- Supported Employment for Dummies – Mario Verzele & Karen Warson (GTB, BE)
How can Supported Employment support the return to work-trajectory of employees with cancer. This workshop provides a brief, interactive journey on the principles and methodology of Supported Employment and a brainstorm session.
- Interactive 3D-storylines integrating the perspectives of different stakeholders - Hans de Bruin (Hogeschool Zeeland, NL)
In this workshop, we will present a first, tentative demo of the interactive 3D information tool and explain the concepts. The goal is to stimulate discussion in order to give us directions for further development.
- Expectations & tresholds in a return to work-trajectory - Sarah De Wolf & Annemie Smits (Emino, BE)
In this interactive workshop, we will discuss the different roles and expectations of the different stakeholders within a return to work-trajectory. By means of this multi-actor perspective, we will get insight into the potential facilitators and tresholds during a return to work-trajectory. We will use specific cases and theses to debate on.
- How can the patient perspective strengthen the I-KNOW-HOW project? - Colette Casimir (patient expert Sorbonne University Paris, FR)
The workshop will explore why and how to become a patient expert, followed by an interactive discussion on how the patient perspective can help to strengthen the outcomes of the I-KNOW-HOW project. The various aspects of the cancer journey that might have an impact on the return-to-work trajectory are highlighted.
